Department of Finance & Accounting

The Department of Finance and Accounting at Howard University, the largest department in the School of Business, offers courses in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, and Insurance.

The Finance program offers a comprehensive, intensive, and rigorous curriculum for students who wish to pursue careers in corporate finance, investments, investment banking, financial analysis, personal financial planning, and other areas of the global financial services industry. Since 1970, over 3,500 alumni have graduated from this program and represent the largest number of African Americans on Wall Street. Students can choose from these unique concentrations and focus areas: 1) Actuarial Science; 2) Risk Management & Insurance; 3) Financial Planning & Wealth Management; 4) Investment Banking, Capital Markets & Trading; 5) Investment Management & Alt Finance; 6) Project ACCLAIM (Accelerating Learning in Asset Investment Management). Howard University is the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to offer an insurance concentration. The Finance program offers a Finance Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Master of Finance degree.

The Accounting program at Howard University School of Business has graduated more African American Certified Public Accountants than any other college or university. These graduates have successful careers in public accounting, corporate accounting, government and nonprofit accounting, as well as in universities all over the world. The vision of the program is to prepare accounting graduates to assume leadership and management roles. Faculty are committed to research impacting the accounting profession. The Accounting program offers an Accounting Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Master of Accountancy degree.

The department is also affiliated with the three professional industry centers: the Center for Insurance Education (CIE), the HPS Center for Financial Excellence (HPS-CFE), and the Center for Accounting Education (CAE).
